NCFAPA IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THIS EFFORT-

We will be there to speak with legislators about budget cuts.

Please join us there.

Email president@ncfapa.org if you are able to attend!

This advocacy day will be taking place while the NC Senate and House are finalizing a compromised budget that will determine the future of behavioral and mental health services.  IT IS VITAL TO PACK THE LEGISLATURE WITH STAFF, PARENTS, CHILDREN, TEACHERS, BOARD MEMBERS, VENDORS AND VOLUNTEERS to influence the legislature to stop balancing the budget by cutting critical services for children.

OUR CHILDREN:  AN INVESTMENT WE CAN AGREE ON

2009 NC Child and Family Lobby Day

Join Us to Lobby for North Carolina's Children and Families!

Who: Sponsored by the Covenant with North Carolina's Children, Action for Children NC, Council for Children's Rights, Children and Family Services Association-NC, NC Association of Educators, National Association of Social Workers-NC, and Prevent Child Abuse NC.

What: Join us for a day of action at the General Assembly! As NC legislators consider devastating budget cuts, we must speak out for children and families. In addition to direct advocacy, we'll be holding a press conference at 1 pm to make our case to the press and the public.

When: Wednesday, 6/24, 11 am - 3 pm

Where: NC General Assembly- 16 West Jones Street, Raleigh (3rd floor Auditorium)

Why: North Carolina's children are the foundation of our future prosperity. When we invest in our children, they will pay us back through a lifetime of productivity and responsible citizenship. Our future will be determined by how well we prepare our next generation for the tremendous responsibilities of adulthood.

Unfortunately, the current budget shortfall threatens investments in the health, education, and safety of our children. It's time to come together to make sure that short-sighted solutions don't jeopardize our future prosperity

Setting up Lobby Meetings:

Please try to set up meetings with your legislative delegation in advance (note - this is not a requirement, but it will help you to get the most out of your time at the General Assembly). Setting up these meetings is easy to do - here are the steps:

  • 2. Call their office. Here's a sample script: "Hi, my name is Jane Smith and I am with the NC Foster and Adoptive Association. I am a foster (adoptive) parent in Charlotte. I'm going to be in Raleigh next Wednesday to talk about child and family issues in the budget, and would like to schedule a time to meet with Rep. Alexander." ……….Very simple.
  • 3. 15 minutes should be enough time for all of these meetings

If you're unable to do this, don't worry. We'll do drop-by meetings with legislators all day.
